The
Foundation
The
Ghassan Kanafani Cultural Foundation (GKCF) was founded as a Lebanese
NGO on
July 8th 1974
, on the 2nd
anniversary of the martyrdom of Ghassan Kanafani, author, journalist,
artist and spokesman for the Palestinian people.
The
Foundation runs kindergartens and habilitation centers with a capacity
for 825 children, in the Palestinian refugee camps and deprived areas in
Lebanon
. GKCF's
outreach program for disabled children, children's libraries, art
centers and clubs benefit another 500 children.
The
Foundation has four committees: administrative, educational, fundraising
and project.
The
total number of dedicated staff members working within GKCF’s programs
and projects is almost one hundred, in addition to many volunteers.

Our
Goals

Publishing
Ghassan Kanafani's literary works in Arabic and other languages.

Establishing
and running both kindergartens for children aged 3to 6 years and
habilitation centers for children with disabilities in deprived
areas.

Establishing
and running libraries and art centers for children aged 6to 18 years.

Integrating
activities between disabled children and other children.

Training teachers and other staff members.

Promoting
cultural and social activities.

Our
Methods
The programs in GKCF’s kindergartens and habilitation
centers are based on the Holistic Approach. The daily activities,
such as: play, art, music
and song, dance and rhythmics, story-telling and conversation, puppetry
L-- and drama; science and observation of the environment all support
the children' s sensory, motoric, emotional, intellectual, social and
creative development. The older children (5 to 6 years) are also
introduced to pre-reading and writing in Arabic.

Achievements
Since
1974, GKCF has established six kindergartens and two habilitation
centers situated within or near Palestinian camps in Lebanon. More than 7,000 children have 'graduated' from GKCF's
kindergartens since the begining of the foundation. Many of them are now school children and
some
have already become university students, teachers, workers and
parents.
